Exploding propane tanks were launched several hundred feet into the air.
That's what Phoenix residents and firefighters experienced Thursday afternoon at a propane tank farm.
Despite the thick, dark smoke air traffic at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was not affected, 12 News reported.
As the temperatures were in the triple digits, a fourth-alarm assignment brought additional firefighters to operate at the massive blaze that was visible for miles.
Firefighters isolated the hazard area, evacuated multiple homes and businesses and attacked the flames with elevated master streams. The fire was then surrounded and the bursting tanks cooled stopping the explosions, Phoenix fire officials said in a statement.
No injuries were reported.
